I Puritani by Vincenzo Bellini

2007-09-23 18:00:00 - 2007-09-23 00:00:00

This fall presentation is filled with Vincenzo Bellini's glorious melodies and vocal dynamism from beginning to end. His last opera and perhaps his most brilliant and sophisticated work, 'I Puritani' may have an improbable plot concerning the love affair of Puritan Elvira and the Royalist Lord Arturo Talbot during the 17th century English Civil War. However, Bellini wrote glorious music in a mood of romantic melancholy that brings the story line and characters to life. Making their role debuts, Lawrence Brownlee will portray Talbot and Sarah Coburn will be Elvira, who has not one but two mad scenes. And this sumptuous opera even has a happy ending.
